R.G. Thomson Lecture
The R.G. Thomson Lecture is an endowed annual lecture that honours AVC's founding dean. The lecture will be presented by Dr. Jonna Mazet, University of California, Davis. Dr. Mazet's lecture, "Rising to the Research Challenge: new approaches for identifying emerging infectious diseases and mitigating their spread," will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 9:20 a.m. in Lecture Theatre A.
AVC Graduate Studies and Research Days
In celebration of the graduate studies program, will be held on Thursday and Friday, May 15 and 16, 2014, in AVC's Lecture Theatre A.
Students will present their recent research findings (or their research plans if they are new students) in animal health research, fish health and marine research and biomedical science and human health research. An awards ceremony will follow.
The Prince Edward Island Premier Who Rocked the Cradle Book Launch
Join H. Wade MacLauchlan and Alex B. Campbell for the Charlottetown Launch of Alex B. Campbell:The Prince Edward Island Premier Who Rocked the Cradle, on Saturday, May 31 from 2:30-5:00 pm in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. Bruce Rainnie will be the event's master of ceremonies.

Announcement of new Tier 1 Canada Research Chair
The Honourable Gail Shea, Canada鈥檚 Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, will be at UPEI on Wednesday, May 21 at 11:00 am to announce the creation and awarding of a new Tier 1 Canada Research Chair, held by Dr. Kate Tilleczek.
The event will be held in the Credit Union Day Lounge of UPEI鈥檚 W.A. Murphy Student Centre. A brief reception will follow. All are welcome.

Over the past several months, the search committee for the Vice-President Academic has received and considered expressions of interest and supporting documents from potential candidates for the position.
A number of outstanding candidates proceeded to the interview process. As a result, two candidates have been selected by the committee to deliver public presentations to campus. Both presentations will be held in Lecture Theatre A of the Atlantic Veterinary College. Each 20-minute presentation will be followed by an opportunity for questions from the audience.
Dr. Christian Lacroix will present on Thursday, May 22, 10:30 to 11:45 am. The session will be moderated by Dr. Gordon MacDonald.

LMMI Conference: L.M. Montgomery and War
UPEI鈥檚 Lucy Maud Montgomery Institute (LMMI)鈥檚 11th biennial conference鈥斺淟.M. Montgomery and War鈥濃攚ill take place June 25鈥29 in Charlottetown. The conference will include open discussions on war, conflict, the Canadian Home Front, gender roles, and more.
Keynote speakers include distinguished historian Jonathan Vance; Montgomery scholar, LMMI founder, and former UPEI President, Elizabeth 鈥淏etsy鈥 Epperly; and Canada Research Chair Irene Gammel. In addition to the full conference program, there will also be a public exhibition at the Confederation Centre of the Arts Public Library entitled 鈥淭he Canadian Home Front: L.M. Montgomery鈥檚 Reflections on The First World War,鈥 curated by Dr. Laura Robinson of the Royal Military College. 鈥淢aud of Leaskdale,鈥 a fantastic one-woman play will also take place at the Carrefour Theatre in Charlottetown during the conference, and much more!
Stewart McKelvey Panther Classic Golf Tournament
UPEI Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce this year鈥檚 Stewart McKelvey Panther Classic Golf Tournament is returning to PEI鈥檚 beautiful Green Gables Golf Course on July 25. The annual event generates support for student-athletes at UPEI.
The tournament begins at 8:30 am with a shotgun start. Registration fee is $650/team of four paid at once; or $170 per golfer, and includes green fee, power carts, gift, and barbeque afterwards. Entry deadline is July 4.
