Information Session: Study Abroad in Japan

UPEI students are invited to an information session about studying in Japan, on Monday, February 10 at 3:00 pm in AVC, Lecture Theater C. This session is being presented by Dr. Toru Yamada, from our UPEI partner school, the University of Tsukuba. If you are interested in studying in Asia, or more specifically, Japan, this is a session that will help answer any questions you may have. Human Biology & Environmental Sciences Seminar Series

Please join Dr. Tanya Chung Tiam Fook,鈥 Island Studies, as she presents the next presentation in the Human Biology and Environmental Sciences Seminar series hosted by the Biology Department. The presentation is entitled 鈥淪ustaining Indigenous Lifeways Through Community Based Conservation in the North Rupununi, Guyana,鈥 and will be held on Friday, February 7 at 12:30 pm in Duffy Science Centre, room 204. Everyone is welcome to attend.

One Billion Rising

For the second year, UPEI will host ONE BILLION RISING 鈥 a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls on Friday, February 14, 2014 at 12:15 pm. The campus community is invited to McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre to rise up and dance together to support the movement. Fitness instructor, Anna Lacroix, will lead the group in dancing. One Billion Rising began in 2013 as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls. One billion women and those who love them will walk out, dance, rise up, and demand an end to this violence. For inspiring videos from around the world, and more information, see . Both the Advisory Council on the Status of Women and PEI Family Violence Prevention Services will be present as community representatives and supporters. Donations will be accepted in support of PEI Family Violence Prevention Services.

Chemistry Seminar

Join Dr. Art van der Est, Department of Chemistry from Brock University for a seminar on Tuesday, February 11 at 12:30 pm. Dr. van der Est鈥檚 presentation is entitled "Electron Transfer in Natural and Artificial Photosynthesis Studied Using Time Resolved EPR Spectroscopy". The seminar will be held in the Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre, Lecture Theatre, room 212.
