Each month, the UPEI Experiential Education department hosts an 鈥淎fternoon of Service鈥 whereby a group of students spends an afternoon at a local organization, learning about it and participating in hands-on volunteer activities such as planting trees, harvesting crops, socializing with seniors, and assisting with events. The department is currently seeking organizations that would appreciate volunteer help and are willing to partner with UPEI for this initiative.

The week of October 17鈥23 is another full one for the UPEI Panthers as they take on opponents at home and away.

Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for October 10鈥16 are Frances MacWilliam (women鈥檚 rugby) and TJ Shea (men鈥檚 hockey).

In this message to the campus community, President Keefe announces that while masks must still be worn in instructional spaces, masks are strongly encouraged but not mandatory elsewhere on campus.

UPEI鈥檚 Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation in St. Peter鈥檚 Bay will host a public Open House on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Members of the public are invited to tour the 45,000-square-foot facility, which houses the UPEI School of Climate Change and Adaptation, the UPEI Climate Lab, and state-of-the-art research centres of excellence, including the Centre of Excellence in Food Security and Sustainability.

Canadian author, journalist, and historian Gwynne Dyer will give a public lecture titled 鈥淧lanetary Maintenance Engineers: A Last-Ditch Climate Rescue Strategy,鈥 on November 3 at 7 pm in the Duffy Science Centre Amphitheatre (Room 135) at UPEI.

Corinne Chappell, Advisor to the Vice-President, Academic and Research, on Indigenous Affairs at UPEI, has won the prestigious 2022 Adult Dwight Dorey Youth Advocacy Award. This award, established by the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples鈥 National Youth Council, recognizes an Indigenous adult who demonstrates support, advocacy, and leadership towards Indigenous youth in their communities.
