UPEI President and Vice-Chancellor Alaa Abd-El-Aziz issued the following statement today on the passing of Ralph Manning, chief physiotherapist for the University's varsity athletics teams. He passed away earlier today in hospital after suffering a heart attack last Thursday.
The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for the week of October 12-18 are Marie-Soleil Deschenes, Women鈥檚 Hockey, and Mason Wilgosh, Men鈥檚 Hockey. UPEI Athletics and Recreation showcases these talented athletes to recognize their hard work and dedication to their respective sports.

The Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament, presented by Rodd Hotels & Resorts, begins on Friday, October 16. Eight basketball teams from across Canada and the United States will compete in this annual three-day event.

UPEI Athletics and Recreation and Development and Alumni Engagement invite all former UPEI rugby players and fans to 鈥淩ugby Alumni Day鈥 on Saturday, October 10. The alumni day for former rugby players is being held in conjunction with the UPEI Women鈥檚 Rugby game versus Acadia at 2:00 pm at MacAdam Field (UPEI Alumni Canada Games Place).
The UPEI School of Sustainable Design Engineering (SDE) participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure on October 4, and did so in big way. Stephen Peters, a second-year SDE student, came in second in the men's competition with a time of 24 minutes in the 5K run.
UPEI case competition students have started their year off 鈥渞ight鈥 by taking top spots at the Atlantic Schools of Business (ASB) Case Competition. UPEI teams won both first and second place against nine other teams from Atlantic Canada. The competition took place on September 26 and was an integral part of the 45th annual ASB conference, one Canada鈥檚 longest running academic business conferences.
Joan Clark will give a public reading and sign books on October 28 at 7:30 pm in the Confederation Centre Art Gallery. The reading is part of the Winter鈥檚 Tales Authors鈥 Reading Series and is sponsored by the UPEI Faculty of Arts and The Canada Council for the Arts.
